MY COUNTRY. MY HISTORY. MY CHIVITA
Yesterday, a friend gave me the first time privilege of holding this book in my hands. It's a delightful handy lightweight one can finish in a Monday to Friday Ikeja/Lekki BRT bus rides.
I have heard a lot about the book and i feel it would be a good read for every true meaning Nigerian. We are very passionate people (and i say that with all passion!), but passion is dangerous without a healthy appetite for unbiased and satisfying knowledge.
Nigeria is almost as rich in history and storytellers as its oil wells. However we reside in an enclave that consumes more and delights in satisfying our body and egos, than in nourishing our minds. The dearth of readers has given life to a race of sycophants who thrive in controversies and conflicting history .
Pa Achebe through "There Was A Country" has given us a crispy fresh view of the defining Biafria war, making robust the ongoing conversations about Nation building.
I hear it goes for N2500 in Lagos traffic, for a copy you'll like to pass to your kids, it would be nice to get yours at known bookshops.
